Biography
Carsten Fiebeler, born 1965 in Zwickau, graduated from the directing class at Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen Konrad Wolf in Potsdam. From 1992 on, he directed several spots for cinema advertising, for Berliner Volksbühne and his "alma mater" HFF Potsdam among others, as well as the teaser trailer "Honni in Kuba" for the movie "Helden wie wir" ("Heroes Like Us"). Since 1993, Fiebeler made numerous short and documentary films that won several awards. Fiebeler"s short film "Straßensperre" ("Road Block"), for instance, won the Panorama short film award at the 1998 Berlinale, while "14/1 Endlos" ("Revanche") won the "Panther Presi & Camera Award" at the 1999 Munich student film festival.
Fiebeler made his feature film debut with the TV movie "Himmlische Helden" which premiered at the 2001 film festival "Max Ophuels Preis". One year later, he made his first movie "Datsche" ("Home Truths"), a tragicomic GDR comedy. Fiebeler"s second movie, the witty youth film "Kleinruppin Forever" (2004), a study of the social background of its East German protagonists, tells the story of the "culture clash" between East Germans and West Germans. Fiebeler"s most recent film, "ostPUNK! too much future", about the punk movement in the former German Democratic Republic, is his first feature-length documentary film.
