Shortly after the outbreak of World War I, German naval recruits Hans and Erich are taken prisoner by the French in Tunis. With the help of a German foreign legionnaire, they manage to escape. They fight their way through the desert to Egypt, where Ottoman troops allied with the Germans are fighting the British. A German fighter plane rescues Hans and Erich from the British soldiers and takes them to Constantinople, where they can return to their ship. From "Zwei blaue Jungen", which was partly filmed on the training ship "Großherzog Friedrich August" and in which marines appear as extras and in supporting roles, only a fragment of about five minutes has survived, showing a sequence from the end of the film.
