Summary
Fred has worked as a truck driver and foreman in West Africa for three years. He returns to Germany with his hard-earned money and wants to resume his old life. But he finds his wife is now living with another man. The people he used to know have changed. And Germany now appears to him as a cold, dirty industrial country in which life is not worthwhile. In the flophouse where he stays, he meets Alma. Together they travel through the country, dreaming of freedom and happiness in Sierra Leone.
Uwe Schrader's second feature film, the only German entry at the 1987 Venice Film Festival, is a laconic look at a man in search of himself.
