Summary
The two sisters Martha Weiß, Mother Superior at a Swabian Franciscan cloister, and her atheist younger sister, Helene, couldn’t be more different. When Helene loses not only her daughter Maja and her husband in a tragic car accident, but also all her memories, Martha takes her sister into her care. Helene needs to decide on the kind of burial she wants for her daughter – Martha cannot imagine anything but a religious one. Helene’s mother-in-law Dolores, however, would prefer a tree burial for her son and her granddaughter. But despite all her sister’s efforts, Helene cannot even remember her own daughter and thrusts Martha into a crisis of faith and conscience.
