Summary
Brandenburg, 1997. With 32 years, Johanna is an intern at a local newspaper and struggling with the death of her grandmother. In addition to her grief, she is burdened by a conflict with her family after she angrily confronts her uncle, who is only interested in his inheritance, at the funeral. She seeks solace by throwing herself headlong into her work and in doing so, she stumbles upon an old photograph of a concentration camp guard named Anneliese Deckert. With this discovery, she hopes for a boost in her journalistic career. Johanna tracks down the now 80-year-old woman, but she does not expect to find her entire family there, nor the uproar the photo has caused.
