Summary
Kurt is an apprentice in a fish combine in Saßnitz. He gets on well with Captain Laue, while with Hannes, another apprentice, he often has arguments. At a regatta Kurt overestimates himself and causes an accident, so afterwards he seeks support from Captain Laue. Together with Hannes and a fisherman from Bremerhaven, Kurt is soon able to join Laue's fishing cutter SAS 181. However, the captain sets an unscheduled course for the Danish island of Bornholm and Kurt has to ally himself with Hannes to thwart Laue's plan.
