Summary
Roses for the Prosecutor
For simply buying two bars of chocolate on the black market during the Second World War, the soldier Kleinschmidt is condemned to death by a military court in which Dr. Schramm is prosecutor. During an air raid, Kleinschmidt is able to flee, thereby escaping his fate. With the war now over, he returns to his home town.
There he accidentally meets Dr. Schramm, his former accuser, who is now making a career in “de-nazified” Germany as a public prosecutor. Remaining loyal to his true German sentiments, Dr. Schramm fears that his dark past may be discovered, and therefore tries everything to get Kleinschmidt to leave town. Fully traumatized, Kleinschmidt smashes a shop window in order to steal two bars of chocolate. He is again brought to trial with Dr. Schramm now prosecutor for the state.
