Rheingold

BR Deutschland 1977/1978 Spielfilm

Summary

Rhinegold

Elisabeth, wife to a diplomat in Switzerland, frequently takes the Trans-European-Express "Rheingold" to Düsseldorf in order to visit her mother. On one of those trips, she meets Wolfgang, a friend from her youth, who works as a waiter on the train. The two begin a passionate affair, which is limited to the train trips. Then Elisabeth's husband happens to take the same train as her and discovers the secret love life of his wife. In his fury, he fatally stabs her before jumping off the train. While her husband chases the train in a taxi cab, Elisabeth hides her wound. Being in a dreamlike state, in which scenery and visions are blurred, she drifts towards her death.
