Summary
As a child, director Werner Boote loved plastic, given that his favourite toys were made of it. These marvellous and colourful playthings with their irresistible and distinct scent were given to him by his grandfather, who was the manager of the German Interplastik company. In his documentary, Boote takes a much more critical look at synthetic materials: The ubiquitous plastic is looked upon from all sides, taking into account its economic value as well as its effects on environment and health – with shocking results. Among the interviewees are scientists and physicians, as well as producers, for example John Taylor, CEO of Plastic-Europa, who proudly declares "The amount of plastic produced during the past 100 years would be enough to wrap the whole globe six times".
