Summary
It Is Not the Homosexual Who Is Perverse, But the Society in Which He Lives
Rosa von Praunheim's famous didactic piece caused a scandal in 1973 - during the nationwide TV broadcast of the ARD, the Bavarian Broadcasting (BR) withdrew from the program.
Having grown up in provincial backwater Daniel moves to Berlin where he falls in love with Clemens. Their attempt to live together like a conventional couple fails. Daniel plunges into the gay subculture, becoming a regular guest and star in cafes, bars and the lido. He seeks and finds sexual adventures, but also experiences the brutality homosexuals are confronted with. In a transvestite pub, he finally meets Paul, who invites him into his gay living community. There Daniel takes part in many discussions, mostly about emancipation, that help him develop a mature political consciousness.
