Summary
Nerves
Munich shortly after the First World War: The film tells the stories of three people, all of whom are affected in their own personal way by the consequences of the war. The conservative factory owner Roloff has long since lost his faith in technical progress. Teacher Johannes on the other hand has turned into a spokesman for the people and demands reforms. Then there is Roloff's sister Marja, who is in love with Johannes and faithfully follows his ideologies.
The extent to which the situation affects the behavior of people becomes obvious when Johannes rejects Marja's love out of religious conviction and she subsequently accuses him of rape. Marja's brother, whose psyche has suffered greatly from the war, lies for his sister and also incriminates Johannes.
Although Marja takes everything back a little later and thereby exonerates Johannes, she no longer shares his pacifist views. Instead, she calls for armed struggle against the system.
