Summary
A film about the life and work of artist Max Beckmann (1884-1950). The painter, illustrator, sculptor and author numbers among the most influential artists of the 20th century. Director Michael Trabitzsch visits Berlin and New York, where Beckmann created his body of work, and offers glimpses of Beckmann's thinking, his self-image and creative mind via the artist's letters and diary entries. In addition, art historians and experts on Beckmann like Didier Ottinger and Reinhard Spieler share their insights in the film.
