Summary
Liberace - aka "Mr. Showmanship" aka "King of Bling" - is perhaps the most enigmatic figure in 20th century U.S. pop culture. Iconically revered by some, derided and despised by others for his pompous, kitschy stage shows in Las Vegas, his figure also reveals the deep divide in U.S. culture. Filmmaker Jeremy J.P. Fekete locates his examination of the U.S. star between glamour and conservative bigotry, talking to people from Liberace's illustrious circle and showing impressive archival footage of the artist. Liberace's homosexuality, which he had to deny throughout his life - not only because of his large number of female fans – is covered just as much as his eccentric private life and his pompous shows and appearances.
