Jenseits der Mauer

In the GDR in 1974, a couple attempts to escape to the West. Their two children, Miriam and Klaus, are hidden in the trunk of their car, but are discovered by the border guards. The parents can only escape the threat of long prison sentences in a Stasi jail by giving their two-year-old daughter up for adoption - otherwise they lose both children. Together with their seven-year-old son, they are then allowed to leave for the West. Miriam, on the other hand, has to stay behind, is finally adopted and henceforth called Rebecca. Later, the Stasi starts sending fake letters to Rebecca's real parents in he West, making them believe they are in contact with their daughter. In 1989 Rebecca eventually finds out the truth and shortly after the Wall comes down...
