Summary

"Hein Petersen, vom Schiffsjungen zum Matrosen" is a film about the recruitment and training of young marines during the First World War. The film shows how Hein Petersen joins the navy and arrives at the ship's boy assembly center in Flensburg. From there, he is taken to the Mürwik Naval School with other candidates. On board the SMS König Wilhelm they are accepted as ship's boys and begin their training with sporting exercises and rowing on the fjord. The film, which was produced as a promotional film for the recruitment of marines, shows the life of the ship's boys on board and their preparation for service as sailors.
