Summary
The wall has fallen and Soviet major Viktor Borisovitch Lazutkin finds himself alone, left behind in reunited Berlin by his army. As if that weren't enough, his wife in Russia has also left him, taking their child with her. Makavejev deftly juxtaposes this absurd though fundamentally mundane story with archive materials, documentary fragments and scenes from "The Fall of Berlin", a Stalinist agitprop film from the year 1949. He exposes the brutality of Stalinism, beheads Lenin in the end and carries Soviet socialism to its grave.
