Summary
Experiments with synthetical sound - Sounding Ornaments
"Sounding Ornaments" is based on Fischinger′s realization that the abstract ornaments he designed for his films closely resembled a film′s optical soundtrack. In this context, Fischinger examined many aspects of sound-on-film, for instance he analyzed which geometrical shapes represented what sounds, or which sounds or music could be created through irregular and stylized patterns. In order to transfer drawings directly onto the soundtrack of the film, Fischinger removed the optical frame of a camera in front of the soundtrack area. Soon, he succeeded in drawing simple melodies, using other soundtracks as visual orientation. "Sounding Ornaments" documents Fischinger′s experiments in the area of "absolute sound film".
