Summary
The Caucasian Night
The Caucasian Night takes place in summer 1990. The Iron Curtain has fallen. It is like a goldrush feeling in the East, especially among the Western business-men. This also applies to Alexander Hofschneider, a manager in porcelain ware, who has come, along with his wife and son Stefan, to reorganise the production of the "Red Earth" factory along Western lines. The brash approach fails from the outset. Instead of being put up in the familiar environment of the Western hotels, the family end up in a real housing district. With the real conflicts of a desolate society that has lost direction. Stefan Hofschneider soon makes friends and has his most significant adolescent experiences in the very night when his father finds the solution that will allow him to make the victorious flight home - sanitary pottery. The Caucasian Night is a parable about adolescence and the ability to cope with life: setting out to gather new experiences under the aggravated conditions of a country awaiting to be discovered.
