Die Frankfurter Kleinstwohnung

Deutschland 1928 Kurz-Dokumentarfilm

Summary

An animated part of the film serves to illustrate how the (folding) furniture can be set up for day and night use. The film then presents the daily routine of the people living in an apartment in Frankfurt-Praunheim, thereby introducing the dwelling. In 1925, the city of Frankfurt approved a social housing programme conceived by city council Ernst May which lead to the construction of 12,000 dwelling units. The settlements were developed on large connected plots in suburbs like Praunheim, Westhausen or Niederrad and constructed with prefabricated building parts. The building department commissioned a series of shorts like this one.
