Der Krieg in mir

Deutschland Schweiz 2016-2019 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

The War in Me

Sebastian Heinzel examines WWII's effects on his family, following his grandfather's path from Germany to Russia, discovering links to his own past. He also meets people from other countries with similar experiences.

This is a generation marked by the war and their parents' and grandparents' traumas. Via his own family history and others, Heinzel shows how collective experiences such as flight, displacement and genocide reach to the second and third generations. But this interrelationship of places, people and events can also loosen knots within families and allow change.

Against the background of the global refugee crisis and international tensions, the film tells of the need for hope for healing and reconciliation; an urgent appeal for peace in Europe.
