Summary
The Diplomat
The life-story of the cosmopolitan and visionary Stéphane Hessel is a declaration of love to the continued existence of the world. Born in Berlin in 1917 the son of writer Franz Hessel, emigrated with his mother to Paris in the mid-20′s, tracing his life-story between Germany and France.
Imprisonment by the Gestapo as a member of the French resistance, death sentence and deportation to Buchenwald. The story of an improbable survival and rebirth as a diplomat: present at the founding of the UNO in New York, occupying difficult posts in Africa, as a campaigner for human rights. A historical mosaic and biographical essay about the diplomat, Ambassadeur de France and, not least of all, the child of Truffaut′s classic "Jules et Jim". Tragic and funny, topical and timeless, melancholic and very optimistic.
