Summary
In 1968 Irmin Schmidt and Holger Czukay founded the band Can in Cologne, which cultivated an avant-garde style somewhere between free jazz and funk, krautrock and psychedelic rock, and also experimented with electronic music. The film portrays Irmin Schmidt, the only founding member still alive. In addition to his artistic activities with Can, the Stockhausen student has worked successfully as a film music composer for decades. The filmmakers meet the 82-year-old in his adopted home of southern France and trace his life and work. His wife of many years, Hildegard, who acted as manager of Can and the Spoon Records label and played a major role in their worldwide and enduring success, is also at the center of this documentary.
