Summary

A young man is unable to find work and applies for a job as a maid in a middle-class household - to do this he is forced to disguise himself as a woman. The master of the house, the Kommerzienrat, falls in love with the supposed maid, as does his servant. The "maid" in turn pursues a female colleague. When the young man finally gives up his disguise, he wins the girl but loses his job.
