Summary
In the first part of the partly autobiographical trilogy "Wohin und zurück", screenwriter Georg Stefan Troller tells the story of 16-year-old Jew Ferry Tobler, who flees Vienna in November 1938 to escape the SS after his father is murdered by the Nazis on Reichspogromnacht (Night of Broken Glass). Arriving in Prague, he meets a German and a Czech emigrant. Bound by their hope for freedom and the desire to start a new life in America, the two will fatefully shape Ferry's subsequent journey. In 1941, after being imprisoned in a French internment camp, the fugitives arrive in Marseille. From there they set out for the United States.
Sequels: "Santa Fe" and "Welcome in Vienna"
