Summary
Documentary episodic film in which six filmmakers from the former GDR review their childhood and youth memories: Lars Barthel, Gabriele Denecke, Peter Kahane, Thomas Knauf, Ralf Marschalleck, Hannes Schönemann and Andreas Voigt all studied at the Film Academy in Potsdam-Babelsberg and all worked for the DEFA studios. Despite these similarities, their memories and impressions diverge in many respects. Their perspectives and assessments are shaped not least by their family backgrounds and the attitudes to the system that prevailed there. It is precisely through these individual impressions and ambivalences that the film attempts to reflect the attitude to life of young people in East Germany in the 1950s and 60s, which oscillates between curiosity, rebellion and repression.
