Summary
German-Turkish Lale Demirkan from Cologne leads a life that bridges cultures. Raised with both German and Turkish influences, she is an independent woman at university and among her friends. At home, however, she remains the model Muslim daughter, as her loving yet traditional father, Cengiz, serves as the prayer leader at the local mosque. On the side, he runs a unique matchmaking service that aims to bring Turkish women to Germany to marry willing men from his congregation. His plans run into difficulties due to the strict language requirements enforced by the racist Dr. Ludwig Sarheimer of the immigration office. In search of a solution, Lale is tasked with helping the women pass a crucial 300-word German language test that will prevent their deportation, even if it means entering into arranged marriages with foreign men. Despite her moral conflicts, Lale agrees to help. But Sarheimer proves intransigent. To complicate matters further, Lale falls in love with Marc, a young civil servant and Sarheimer's nephew.
