Sperrmüll

Deutschland 1989-1991 Dokumentarfilm

Summary

East Berlin in the spring of 1989: Enrico "Rizzo" Idzikowski and his three bandmates make music – using discarded things of all sorts as their instruments. For the four young members of “Sperrmüll”, this is the favorite way to ventilate their frustrations. Yet the political shifts in the summer change everything: Though his mother is suddenly allowed to marry a man from West Berlin, Enrico refuses to move to there and remains skeptical of the Western influences after the fall of the Wall. Meanwhile, his band starts to dissolve.

Director Helke Misselwitz accompanies Enrico and his friends in her documentary, and their search for identity relates the story of a whole generation in the wake of historical events that eventually transformed a whole country.
