Flanell No. 5
Flanell No. 5
"Flanell No. 5" stands for the ability to change: by replacing three letters, a well-known perfume becomes the smooth dress material flannel. But there is also a "change of materials" in the artistic realisation: in the repeated changes between the media of dance and film.
While dance, transitory and light like the scent of a perfume, renders the dreams and desires of the dancers, film, firm and concrete like the material, presents the reality behind. The film recounts five absurd stories about the reality of a dancer′s existence. It shows the "back stage" life of five women who - each in her own way - are caught up in the pains and pleasures of the banalities of an artist′s routine. A shared flat and the daily struggle for survival are what binds these figures together. With great humor, an enclosed world is portrayed which has its own logic, a specific dance language and distinct gestures, problems and, of course, dreams which are woven into the choreography "on stage".
