Uckermark
In his documentary, Volker Koepp portrays the Uckermark, a region 60 kilometers from Berlin, bordering Western Pomerania and Poland to the northeast. It is the largest district in Germany - and the most sparsely populated. The beauty of the landscape and historic villages contrasts with the problems of the population - the Uckermark is one of the poorest regions in Germany, and more than 20 percent of the people are unemployed. Those who have the chance move elsewhere.
