The False Weight


The new calibrator Anselm Eibenschütz tries to enforce his idea of k.u.k. service values in the pauperized Galician border village of Zlotograd. But wherever the very survival is at stake, values like discipline and morals lose their importance. Bernhard Wicki′s film version of Joseph Roth′s novel depicts the decay of the Danube Monarchy that is driven by poverty and that is mirrored in the tragedy of calibrator Anselm Eibenschütz.
