Der amerikanische Soldat
Ricky Murphy – an American Vietnam veteran of German descent – is hired by three Munich police officers to kill people, who are a nuisance to the cops. In his treatment Fassbinder summarized Ricky′s tale as follows: "Ricky is from overseas and he is wearing a light-coloured suit, a squashy hat and a holster with a gun under his jacket. Ricky drinks Whiskey, doesn′t talk a lot and he meets a friend. They go for a ride through the backyards of their childhood and Ricky′s friend asks Ricky about Vietnam. Ricky is doing his jobs and then he dies. Ricky, who will do every job, no questions asked, as long as he is paid duly, Ricky, the man without a heart, who may make love to a woman – or not."
