Sweetheart of the Gods
Biography of the German actress Renate Müller, played by Ruth Leuwerik: In the 1930s Müller is a rising star in the German film business. But when the Nazis come into power her jewish boy friend has to emigrate to England. She tries to stay in contact but Goebbels keeps her under surveillance. For the Nazis she has to be everybody′s darling and the poster child of the regime. So her passport is confiscated and her plans to leave Germany are thwarted. Müller falls for alcohol and has a break-down during the shooting of a new film. She is institutionalized and commits suicide at the age of 31.
