Marie Reich, the daughter of the film producers Uschi Reich and Peter Zenk, was born in Munich in 1979. After finishing high school, she worked as an intern for Buena Vista International and for Bayerische Staatsoper. In 1999, Marie Reich started to study directing at Hochschule für Film und Fernsehen in Munich. There, she finished the short films "Paul" (2000) and "Musik nur wenn sie laut ist" ("Music Only If It"s Loud", 2006) that won the Murnau short film award in 2006. In 2009, Reich finished her first full-length feature film, the coming-of-age story "Summertime Blues".
