Menschen im Sturm
1941, in the border-zone between Yugoslavia and Austria, that since 1930 belongs to Großdeutschland: until now, the Slovenian landowner Alexander Oswatic and his German wife have never been in danger. As both Serbs and Germans claim the region as home, Vera determines to help her stout compatriots, many of whom are in danger of persecution. She succeeds in beguiling a Serbian captain to the point where she can discover secret plans. Vera allies herself with the teacher of the local German school, and together they help many escape to safety. The Serbian commanding officer gets suspicious, and plants an informer to dig out the "mole" in their ranks. By a hairsbreadth, Vera escapes discovery. Eventually she herself escapes, but is detained just before the border and is killed.
The film should be seen as a NS " Tendenzstück" (play with a purpose), coinciding with the German conquest of Yugoslavia (April 1941).
