It all begins with a misunderstanding: Ernst Held, an amateur poet and former waiter, is caught without his pants by his wealthy hotel-owner wife while in the company of another woman. That he was merely reciting his modest poems to the lady, and that his missing pants were due to spilled tea, no longer matters. Ernst soon finds himself out on the street and, shortly thereafter, working as a waiter at the Munich pub "Goldener Löffel." The pub's owner, Agnes, not only tolerates Ernst’s poetic pursuits but encourages them. This leads to unexpected consequences: Ernst Held rises from humble waiter to media star, and the "Goldener Löffel" transforms into the hottest spot in town.
