Tim Trachte, born in 1976 in Munich, studied dramaturgy at the Maximilians-University Munich from 1997 to 1999. He then went to New York, where he trained as a film editor. Back in Germany, he began studying directing at the Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film in Munich in 2002. His 50-minute graduation film, the relationship psychodrama "Der Herrscher von Edessa" ("The Lord of Edessa", 2007), won the Kulturpreis Bayern (Bavarian Culture Prize) as Best Film and the Starter Filmpreis der Stadt München (Starter Film Prize of the City of Munich).

His feature film debut, the psychothriller "Davon willst du nichts wissen" ("You Don't Want to Know", 2011), won the 2012 SoHo International Film Festival (New York) World Showcase Award for Best International Feature Film. He then shot the successful teenage comedy "Abschussfahrt" (2015) and the equally successful children's film "Die Vampirschwestern 3 - Reise nach Transsilvanien" ("Vampire Sisters 3 - Journey to Transylvania", 2016).

"Benjamin Blümchen" ("Benjamin the Elephant", 2019), a film adaptation of the audiobook series of the same name is about the adventures of a talking elephant and was aimed at the youngest viewers. Continuing in 2019, the coming-of-age love story "Dem Horizont so nah" ("So Near the Horizon"), based on the bestseller by Jessica Koch, was also launched in cinemas.
