Hairdresser Hans Anton Schatz who is getting a bit long in the tooth is still living with his mother and is working in a small-town salon right around the corner. Schatz is worshipping the florist Melanie who is engaged to a Ruhr area chav, though. Shortly before her wedding, Melanie panicks and persuades Hans Anton to go with her on a bus trip to Berlin. In the big city, Hans Anton livens up. He falls in love with an outgoing TV host and even follows her into her show.

Winkelmann tailor-made this film for the unconventional pop star Guildo Horn who at the time was on the peak of his popularity when he surprisingly competed in the Eurovision Song Contest. In "Waschen Schneiden Legen", Horn is not only allowed to sing but also to extensively show off his superb head of hair and his beautiful body.
