Docudrama about the eventful life of Carola Stern, who was born under the name Erika Assmus. In the GDR Erika was an enthusiastic young girl leader, teacher and in the SED cadre - but also a spy for the USA. Eventually she fled to West Berlin, where she made a career as a controversial journalist under the name of Carola Stern, campaigned for the human rights group Amnesty International and was successful as a book author.
