Dancing at the Dump

On the 40th anniversary of the GDR, several men beat up the 17-year-old Gerat on a garbage dump and burn his eyes with lime solution. In hospital he is told that only an operation can save his sight. But how did the brutal clash come about?  

Gerat doesn’t seem to get along with anyone. He can only confide in his teacher Claudia. Especially his letter of application for an apprenticeship as an assembly fitter is too provocative and brings him a rejection and a quarrel with his family. Eventually he finds a job at the garbage dump, but he does not want to participate in private scrap metal business like his colleagues. On top of everything he falls in love with Claudia, and the situation threatens to get out of hand.
