Insel der Schwäne

14-year-old Stefan moves from an idyllic village to the vast housing estate of Berlin-Marzahn, where his father is employed as a construction worker. Once there, Stefan has to adapt to different surroundings, unfamiliar encounters and new social rules. He gets to know timid Hubert and meets "Windjacke", who acts all nice in front of the grown-ups but is intimidating and blackmailing the younger kids. Stefan also finds himself between two girls, who compete for the affection of boys in order to heighten their social status. Stefan enrolls in a school class,in which learning has become a peculiar, ritualistic routine between the pupil and their teacher. Everything seems more fleeting and bustling, yet also more lifeless than Stefan was used to in his former rural home.
