Mathias Allary was born in Duesseldorf in 1960 and studied at the Academy of Television & Film (HFF/M) in Munich. He made the short films "Polster Willi" (1984), "Ein Tag wie ein Jahr" (1985) and "Faschings-Mus" (1987) before his first feature-length film "Franta" (1989). His other films areinclude: "Art Car Cesar Manrique" (1991), "Endloser Abschied" (1994) and "Love, Life, Death" ("Liebe, Leben, Tod", 1995).
