I Dance, But My Heart Is Crying
Documentary film about the history of the two record labels Semer and Lukraphon, which produced music by Jewish artists in National Socialist Berlin until 1938, when all recorded music, original matrices, texts and sheet music were completely destroyed in the ‘Reichspogromnacht’ of 9 November 1938. 70 years later, two collectors meticulously brought together shellac discs scattered around the world that their owners had saved in exile. The musical heritage of Jewish artists who were murdered in the Holocaust is brought back to life with newly arranged music by an international ensemble. The film not only tells of the lost music, but also of the tragic fate of the artists.
