Born in Haan in Germany in 1968, he grew up in Gießen before moving to Berlin in 1992 to take a degree in history and cultural studies at Humboldt-Universität. A freelance writer since 1998, he co-wrote Henner Winckler's "Klassenfahrt" (2002) and "Lucy" (2006). In 2005 he made his directing debut with the short film "Baden".
