September 5
On September 5, 1972, the tenth day of the Munich Olympic Games, gunshots suddenly ring out in the Olympic Village at 4:40 a.m. The sports reporters from the American network ABC, staying at a nearby hotel, are among the first media representatives to learn of the attack. Tasked initially with covering sports events, young ABC producer Geoff decides to seize the moment to impress his boss and suggests that his team stay on-site to report live on the unfolding events. What follows is a 21-hour live broadcast, led by Geoff and German interpreter Marianne. Throughout the coverage, the two grapple with the ethical dilemmas of reporting: how to handle conflicting rumors about the fate of the hostages and whether they are inadvertently giving the attackers the very spotlight they seek from the media.
