Based on the bestseller by Julia Franck. In the roaring 1920s, sisters Helene and Martha come to Berlin to start a new life. Martha quickly gets caught up in the nightlife of parties and drug excesses and loses control of her life. Helene, on the other hand, has more ambitious goals: she wants to study medicine and become a doctor. When she falls in love with Karl, her happiness seems complete. But Karl dies unexpectedly.
