Nationalstraße
National Street
Film adaptation of the novel of the same name by Jaroslav Rudiš. The story is set in Prague and tells of a man with the nickname Vandam. In November 1989 he was one of the initiators of the Velvet Revolution - at least that's what he tells. Twenty-five years later, Vandam still lives in the dreary prefabricated housing estate of his childhood and seems a bit from another era. He owes his nickname to the martial arts film star Jean-Claude van Damme, because like him he doesn't put up with anything. In his neighbourhood he is a hero, but his penchant for violence once cost him his job as a policeman. However, he also has a tender, vulnerable side, which he can show Lucka, the woman he is secretly in love with. She owns Vandam's favourite pub, which has become a kind of second home to him. When real estate sharks try to take over the property in order to rebuild it, Vandam's protective instinct is awakened...
