When Jonas loses his job in a Hamburg start-up, he doesn’t manage to tell his girlfriend Katharina about it, because shortly before her first state examination in law, her nerves are shattered. Every morning he leaves the apartment and rides aimlessly through the big city on his daily subway journeys. After a chance encounter with his former boss Marc, Jonas begins to observe the charismatic young manager. Curiosity gradually becomes obsession, smaller and bigger everyday lies become more and more a kind of survival strategy for Jonas. Increasingly Katharina also wonders about his strange behavior, as Jonas gradually loses control of the events. The fear of failing in the supposed competition of life sets off a spiral of wrong decisions from which there seems to be no turning back.
