Das Weib des Pharao
Pharao′s Wife
Amenes, the tyrannical Egyptian pharao, disdains the daughter of the Ethiopian king and instead takes his servant Theonis as his wife. As a result, Ethiopia declares war on Egypt. Before he goes to war, Amenes orders to immure Theonis because she had sworn to always be faithful to her lover Ramphis. Although Amenes′ army loses the battle, Ramphis manages to defeat the Ethiopians, to liberate Theonis, and to become Egypt′s new pharao. But when Amenes, who was presumed dead, returns, Ramphis offers to give back the throne to Amenes but only when he leaves Theoins to Ramphis. Nevertheless, Ramphis and Theonis get stoned by the disappointed people after the deal and Amenes also dies before he can be crowned again.
