Goldrausch - Die Geschichte der Treuhand
Documentary film about the history of the controversial Treuhandanstalt. Once the largest holding company in the world, it was responsible for the gradual privatization of the GDR economy. Two and a half million jobs were lost in the course of this process. This is not the only reason why many former citizens of the GDR still refer to it as the 'gravedigger' of East Germany. In fact, the Treuhandanstalt accumulated debts of 256 billion marks until its closure in 1994. A considerable portion of this money flowed into private pockets, a scandal that has never been fully resolved. In addition to describing facts about the development of the Treuhand, the film raises old questions about the company's questionable maneuvers anew.
