Eight inmates of two youth detention centers have to prove that they can be rehabilitated and find their way back into society. The successful completion of the project could mean that the sentences of the young men and women might be reduced. They are all doing time for drug abuse, hit-and-run, violence and involuntary manslaughter.

The prison psychologist Marek dares to follow a new strategy: a circus tent is set up behind the jail, circus horses are brought in and the somewhat motivated inmates are instructed under his watching eye and those of the wardens. But very quickly they realize: the premiere cannot take place as planned.

"Artists" tells the fateful stories of eight young people behind bars who hope for nothing more than freedom and the simple desire to be normal again.
